“Baby Reindeer” Creator Moves to HBO with Upcoming Series “Lions”
Richard Gadd's project will address the complicated relationship of two brothers
After the success of the dark comedy Reindeer Baby on Netflix, its creator and protagonist confirmed that he already has a new story on the way but it will be developed on a different platform. Lions, Richard Gadd's next series, will become a reality in collaboration with HBO and the BBC, the production team confirmed this Thursday.
According to the official premise, the story will follow the intense and complex relationship between two brothers. Ruben unexpectedly appears at Niall's wedding after several years of separation. The encounter unleashes a violent confrontation that will reveal what happened in their lives.
“Spanning nearly 40 years, from the 1980s to the present, this ambitious series will cover the ups and downs of the brothers' relationship, from when they met as teenagers to their estrangement as adults, including all the good, bad, terrible, funny, angry and challenging along the way,” says the synopsis.
“I am very grateful to Francesca Orsi, Kara Buckley and Clint LaVigne for giving the series this opportunity and also to Ruben and Niall, who, despite having grown up in a Scottish town with no future, would be absolutely pinching themselves with excitement about this. “I can’t wait to get started,” he concluded.

The BBC's director of drama also applauded the talent of Richard Gadd, and announced that the series presents a “bold, brilliant and one-of-a-kind narrative.” “We can't wait for viewers to see it,” she said.
Richard Gadd rose to fame with Baby Reindeer, a dark comedy-drama that quickly became one of Netflix's most-watched series. The story, which mixes humor and tragedy based on the personal experiences of its creator, launched Gadd to international stardom. However, the production also dealt with controversy due to a lawsuit from Fiona Harvey, a woman who supposedly inspired a character in the series.
